Wastewater Treatment Facility
Prior Lake, MN
The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community contracted with Rice Lake Construction Group to construct a state-of-the-art sanitary wastewater treatment facility to treat wastewater from all SMSC residences and community enterprises located south of County Road 42.
The wastewater facility design provides a small footprint with no basins, enclosed in one building. With residential housing nearby, specific attention was given to containing noise and odors, while providing an aesthetically pleasing facility. After treatment, the effluent is directed into several wetlands. In the summer, the treated water is used to irrigate the golf course while in the winter, the treated waters will flow north, eventually reaching the Minnesota River.
The following wastewater treatment processes were implemented: screening and grit removal, parallel plate clarifiers, biological aerated filters, biosolids thickening, drying and bagging, odor control, ultra membrane filtration and ultraviolet disinfection. The high degree of treatment will facilitate the reuse of the effluent water for irrigation purposes.
Rice Lake self performed the following work on this project: structural excavation, site utilities, site grading, concrete work, masonry, carpentry, door and window installation, specialty construction, equipment installation, process piping installation and plumbing.
