Sanitary Sewer Connection Phase 2
Lake Elmo, MN
Rice Lake Construction Group installed 54” FRP pipe using tunneling and open cut methods during the final phase of this Metropolitan Council project. The tunnel portion consisted of 310LF of 94” O.D. casing pipe.
Part of the project was to recover a tunnel boring machine abandoned under Interstate 94 during a prior contract, which called for consolidation grouting of soils during the recovery and removal process. The project also included a soldier pile and lagging shaft 34’ deep and a slide rail supported excavation 42’ deep. Upon completion of the tunnels, 54” FRP pipe was installed and grouted in place. Soils were mixed sands and clays with cobbles and boulders. Surface settlement was monitored on a daily basis and for 30 days after the project was completed.
