Gravity Interceptor

This gravity interceptor required installation of four 48” casing pipes by tunneling under major gas mains, a highway and a railroad. Rice Lake Construction Group used RCP and steel casing pipe materials for this project. The length of the tunnels ranged from 110LF to 304LF with a total length of 676LF. All tunnels required consolidation grouting and installation of 24” PVC sanitary sewer pipe that was grouted into place. Soils were generally sand and gravel with numerous cobbles and boulders. An extensive settlement-monitoring program was used including settlement points along each side of the tunnel’s centerlines. Extensometers were also used at various locations along each tunnel.
